Stabilizing Habitat Chesapeake’s Marketing in a Time of Transition
Client Overview:
In early 2024, Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake faced an unexpected challenge when the Executive Lead of their Marketing Department took immediate medical leave. This sudden absence put key projects and department stability at risk. To maintain continuity, Bytesize Communications was brought in as a Fractional Communications and Marketing Consultant to stabilize operations and strengthen the department’s foundation.
The Challenge:
Our role was to quickly integrate into a new team, familiarize ourselves with key systems, and understand ongoing initiatives. With the leadership void, it was crucial to build trust across the organization while making ensuring operations run smoothly during this transition period.
Discovery and Collaboration:
Thanks to years of volunteer involvement, we already understood Habitat Chesapeake’s mission. We conducted a thorough assessment of the department’s current projects, workflows, and challenges. Immediate priorities were identified, and a strategic plan was created to address urgent needs while setting the stage for long-term stability.
Specific Initiatives:
- Executive Liaison: We acted as a liaison between the executive team and marketing, facilitating open communication and alignment with organizational goals. Regular leadership check-ins kept initiatives on track and fostered interdepartmental collaboration.
- Protocol Development: To enhance efficiency, we developed standardized protocols for content creation, approval workflows, and external communications, delivering consistent, on-brand messaging.
- Budget Finalization: Partnering with the finance department, we analyzed past expenditures and projected needs, resulting in a realistic and strategic budget that supported departmental goals with financial responsibility.
- Staff Recruitment and Training: Recognizing areas needing support, we led the recruitment of two new team members, then developed an onboarding program to set them up for long-term success.
The Outcome:
By stepping in during a critical period, we provided stability and strategic direction to Habitat Chesapeake’s Marketing and Communications Department. Through effective collaboration, process improvement, and team development, the department emerged stronger and better equipped to advance the organization’s mission of building homes, communities, and hope in Central Maryland.
